Merit Scholarship Program

The Beta Theta Pi Foundation awards approximately 70 tuition-based scholarships each year. Several scholarships are restricted to particular chapters/fields of study according to terms of the original endowment. Scholarships are awarded based on final scores from a three-judge panel — the higher the score, the higher the award.

Merit Scholarships – Betas Only

Details: Each year, roughly 70 Foundation Merit Scholarships are awarded ranging from $350 to eight Founders Scholarships at $2,150 each. The applications are evaluated by a panel of of independent judges and all applicants are notified of the results in June of each year. The list of available Merit Scholarships for the 2015-16 academic year is located here.

Eligibility: Undergraduate and graduate student initiated members of Beta Theta Pi who will be enrolled as full-time students in the 2015-16 academic year are eligible to apply for Merit Scholarships this fiscal year. Previous Foundation Merit Scholarships recipients are not eligible.

Deadline: Applications must be submitted online by April 15 annually.

Scholarships for Beta Sons and Daughters

betaThe purpose of the Beta Theta Pi Foundation is to advance the educational mission and goals of Beta Theta Pi tpward the vision of the Fraternity. The Foundation also:

  • Cultivates lifelong friendships with Betas, parents and Friends of Beta
  • Solicits Betas and friends for cash, stock, endowment and estate gifts
  • Funds leadership & educational grants for Men of Principle programs and resources
  • Provides gift stewardship by demonstrating the direct impact on Beta’s mission
  • Recognizes Beta alumni for personal, professional and fraternal achievements
  • Oversees investment strategies of the Foundation’s financial portfolio
  • Recruits foundation volunteers to serve as ongoing fundraising advocates
  • Plans and executes capital campaigns that advance the Fraternity’s mission
  • Provides administrative support to local chapters engaging in fundraising activities

In furtherance of its mission, the Foundation offers scholarships including those for sons and/or daughters of Betas. About opportunities for the 2014-15 academic hear, the Foundation says:

If you have a son or daughter who will be enrolled full-time in college during the 2014-15 academic year, he or she is eligible to apply for two scholarships offered by the Beta Theta Pi Foundation. The Seth R. and Corinne H. Brooks Scholarship (two scholarships available) is open to sons and daughters of Betas, and the Caroline Previdi of Sandy Hook Elementary Memorial Scholarship (two scholarships available) is open to both Betas and sons/daughters of Betas who are majoring in education. The same application is used to apply for both scholarships, and the application deadline is April 1. The online link to apply is located here and on the Merit Scholarship page of the Beta Foundation’s website. An essay question has been included as part of the application, so please allow plenty of time for your son or daughter to submit a quality application and upload a copy of a current transcript.
